DooPrint: Ricoma TC 1501-8s from YES

Nicola Brighton, owner

Tell us a bit about your business

DooPrint is a newly founded business in the printing and personalisation sector that specialises in sublimation, embroidery and heat transfer vinyl. The business idea was born when I highlighted there was a gap in the market for teamwear printing locally.

What embroidery machine did you buy from YES and why?

In January 2019 I brought the Ricoma TC 1501-8s to be able to expand my business and offer embroidery services. The machine cost me £9,000. I started by looking at single- needle embroidery machines, but soon realised it would not be efficient for the business. After attending the P&P show I decided on the Ricoma TC 1501-8s.

Why did you choose this machine?

I chose a Ricoma machine as it was the most cost effective and came with all the hoops and training, and it had a lot of very good reviews.

Is there anything you would like to see in an upgrade or don’t particularly like about it?

In an upgrade I would like the machine to display the time remaining when stitching a design and the colour stops, and also to be able to put the machine into a manual or auto mode.

What’s it like to use?

It’s a learning curve, but I am starting to enjoy practising and creating products on it for my customers. I’m still learning how to get the best out of it.

What sort of work is it used for?

It is mainly used for badge-size designs for clubs (eg football clubs), small designs for children’s clothing and pillow case designs.

What would be your advice to others thinking of buying an embroidery machine?

My advice to other potential purchasers would be to do your research and make sure it is what you require as it’s a large purchase.
